Sometimes I Wonder

A poem I made for my girlfriend. Her reaction was so cute, I thought the poem deserves to be published.

[Late afternoon, Philippines]

"Sometimes, I Wonder"

Sometimes, I wonder about the "what ifs"…

 

What if it wasn't you, but her?

What if I was already a graduate?

What if I didn't comment on your picture that day?

What if… what if we never met?

 

It's all moot, of course.

 

She could never--

She would NEVER--

Love me the way you do.

 

You are unmatchable in my eyes.

You are my motivation,

You… are everything I could have asked for,

And you… are everything I believe I need.

 

You are healthy, healing.

She was toxic, torturous… using.

 

Nothing more than a rebound, I was.

She left me on read, she did.

She blocked me soon after, she did.

 

And then you arrived.

 

I was already healing,

I was no longer looking,

I was just simply flirting…

 

We even promised we wouldn't be serious!

HA! Look at our happy faces now…

 

Sometimes, I wonder about the "what ifs".

And I realize, it is moot.

 

I am yours,

You are mine,

We are each other's…

And all is right.
