Coffe and YouA Poem by Trey JakosalemWhile this was initially made for one of my school's publications following the prompt of "the smell of coffee in the morning," I also wrote this in hopes that that special someone would like me back.Coffee and You By Trey Jakosalem They say that the smell of coffee wakes you in the morning, That the very whiff of it gives you energy. Or perhaps… that's just me? Well, regardless of which, good morning. "Sleep well?" I hope to hear you ask, some day. "Sleep well?" A near-daily greeting to you, I say. Yet, thus far, it is only me. But perhaps… in the future? Well… we shall see. And I hope you read this, because I wish thee to know, That the scent of coffee in the morning… Means so much more than a mere waking. For it reminds me of you, a woman who I know can bring me
sorrow. Yet, I drink it so as I love you so. You drink it bitter, as if your heart dares to wither. I like mine bitter-sweet, fitting for loving you when we've
yet to meet. But most of all, I love the scent. As even without tasting it, I can imagine you around me. HA! And, well, you might view me as crazy, But at least this way, I can look forward to a day well
spent, This is why I like coffee, It reminds me of you. I hope one day, you'll drink with me, And say you love me too. But until then, I drink to sooth my soul, Hoping that maybe you'll fill its hole. And of course, I greet thee, "Good morning." "Sleep well?" I message, and now, I drink here,
waiting. © 2021 Trey JakosalemAuthor's Note
