Good Intent

Good Intent

A Poem by S.M. Melling
"

A poem about the complex nature of good intentions.

"
The road to hell I've heard,
is paved with good intent
this road to hell I paved myself,
with stones of meaning well.
Each stone was measured - placed,
with the steps of selfless care
but the path they tread, despite intent,
would not guide me there.
Blind I walked the road untravelled,
heartened by my good intent
The more I walked and went astray,
did I lose sight of what it truly meant.
Now hell is where I languish, to suffer everyday,
with "No good deed goes unpunished" barring my way.
And though I am lost, easy am I found,
by the ones who truly wish
This hell is one of guilt's design,
that I inflict upon myself.
