A Search For Something Special

A simple poem about depression, written from the place of actively being caught in its grasp.

I looked so deep inside,

or somewhere in between,

for something truly special,

to show for all to see.

For something dark and wicked,

or a right and noble truth,

For something calm and peaceful,

to fill my soul anew.

Instead I found the empty,

a void of apathy,

Where nothing felt existed,

but numbing agony.

I persist on through the numbness,

I fight the urge to flee,

My hope is by this journey's end,

I'll finally be set free.

The second poem I ever wrote, during a time of depression in my life, when nothing seemed like it would ever change or improve. A very simple piece, expressing what I was feeling at that time.
