Otto

Otto

A Poem by Shannon
"

Well...

"
Otto is a spiteful sprite,
Trying to wreck my writing,
And he just might!

“So”s become “do”s
So many times.
What is in common -
Other than rhymes?

Poor “smurfs” turn to “snuff”,
“Through” is not “tough”.
I am telling you, Otto,
I’ve had quite enough!

“Refuse” is “refused”,
My email rejected,
Appears my phone
Is completely infected!

Rants are turned cute,
Who says “ducking”?
With my words,
He is seriously fu----

Yes, Otto Korrect,
that clever sprite,
Has even kept his
True name from sight!

I feel as though some polishing might be in order. Any ideas?
Two people helped me name Otto Korrect. You know who you are.

This began as an intriguing story that sparked my curiosity, especially in the first few lines. This is a very clever flow and structure which impresses me and leaves me wanting to see more of this style or even a follow-up to this piece. The ending and reveal at the end truly caught me caught and was very witty and a very good execution of keeping a sound rhyme scheme, painting a story, with a clever finish that left this reading in awe for I never saw it coming. I went from confusion, to curiosity, to being blown away. I think that one of the greatest accomplishment's a writer can receive from a reader. Very well done, I really enjoyed this and appreciate the thought, talent, and originality of this piece. Great read!

Thanks for stopping by to read. I think this is my most universal piece - we can all relate...
I like it. It vents a certain amount of frustration yet in a fun, non-ranty and non-melodramatic way. :)

Thank you. A bit of silliness to diffuse.
This is hilarious & so apt for today's frustrations with auto-correct!!!! I knew right away what this was about, the name "Otto" being very cleverly chosen. I like that you include many examples of how auto-correct thinks it knows what you want to say, more than you do! I love the characterization: "spiteful sprite" (both sounding great & nice meaning, too). I love the reference to "fu***" becoming "ducking"!! You've definitely come up with an unusual and never-before-heard-of instances of auto-correct, which brings your poem to life. I love the way you've personified this curse & you're talking TO it here! There's really nothing I can suggest to improve this adorable rant.

The ducking one happens! So do some of the others...
Entertaining. You left out five letters, I think.

i like Otto....this is playful, but i teach English in community college, and most students have no concept of grammar and proper spelling and the spell and grammar check is almost useless, misses almost 40 percent of the mistakes...

can't depend on that auto or otto correct...for sure.

painful in a way, but also a smile....
