Dark City

Dark City

A Poem by SMcIlhon

You're in the wrong neighborhood

and completely lost.

You're trying desperately

to remember a place

where you feel safe.

The street signs are missing

and corners are filled

with drug dealers

and doers.

Your fancy shirt shines bright

like a bullseye.

If you walked on their side

of the street instead

of scurrying down your own,

they'd see that sweat occupies

your face and fear

holds your heart.
