Balls. What are they? Here's what they are not: perfect. "Nobody is perfect," they say... And surely it is unheard of for anything to reach perfection. It is merely a word to describe how close something gets to being truly ideal... However, it is not possible to reach such a state, not really... And if there is no such thing as perfection, then what is the ball?
The ball is defined as a round, spherical object, yes? And is it not so that most people tend to associate perfection with balls? They are almost ideal- they are round, smooth, bounce "straight..." They are perfect. They are balls. They come in plenty of different sizes- there are bigger ones and smaller ones... They are all round, however. Perfectly round, to some.
The perfect ball, then, does not exist. Perfect is defined as being flawless, and are balls flawless? "Sure they are!" says Bob, though he probably never gave it a second thought. Society as we know it is infatuated with the notion that spheres are perfect. Look at our universe... The planets and stars are all portrayed as being circular. Is the earth really shaped like the perfect circle you see in the books? Of course it is not. It can just as easily be drawn like a triangle. There is no way that a massive explosion could have formed a perfect circle. Then what is the ball?
The ball is something of spherical origins. Have you ever tried to draw a perfect circle, by the way? You can't do it, no matter how steady you hold your hand. You can only draw a spherical shape. Why then are balls considered so perfect? It is because of appearances. They seem perfect. In reality, however, whoever drew that perfect super ball or made that perfect tennis ball your dog is chewing on only captured what spherical means.
What are balls? Balls are images- glimpses- of an ideal society... an ideal world. We want perfection to exist, we, as a human race, want to know that there really is such a thing as ideal out there. We look for it in religion. We seek it out in science. We have captured it in balls. Indirectly, sure... But it does not really matter when you get right down to it. Balls and perfection tend to go hand in hand in society's mind. Spheres are everywhere. They are unavoidable. They are the ideal shape, which is impossible, on account of there is no such thing as true perfection.
Balls are not really balls. They cannot be. Because society associates spheres with perfection, it does not necessarily mean that all balls are perfect (or any, for that matter). Balls are rounded objects. Perfection is a notion of being ideal. They are not the same, do not lead yourself astray.
