The Mirror of Erised

The Mirror of Erised

A Poem by Shubhangi
"

What is your heart's deepest desire?

"

Wrapped in a golden frame, the mirror so mysterious,

None knows it's true history, whether glorious or devious.

It will not show your reflection, speaks the folklore

Rather shows your yearning, a wish you've longed for.

A dream you'd have, unfulfilled unreachable,

Your heart's truest fancies, so distant and surreal.

Men have gone mad, endlessly staring at the mirror

Abstracted from the actuality, lost in their desires.

Some saw their names engraved on golden plates,

Heads crowned and a thousand soldiers protecting their castle gates.

Some witnessed their success and illusory powers

Not realizing what the mirror really devours.

Other experienced the respect they deserved;

What they really craved for and not what they were served.

Every soul in this world has a wish unfulfilled,

For I too have a dream, that needs to be filled.

And upon reaching the bewitched mirror,

I shall see him, a little more clearer.

I know not what he is like;

But can only imagine his magic and his might.

Standing beside me, singing a love rhyme,

Together we will walk, on the eternal sands of time.

Our rendezvous enchanted 'been arranged by (god) fate,

Yes surely, till then, for you I shall wait.
