LUGGAGE OVERLOAD

LUGGAGE OVERLOAD

A Poem by SHEEMA HUQ
"

Do you have anything to declare?

"

Lugging one’s luggage pedantically across an

airport lobby, as if one was preparing to

undertake a long term hobby. Certain

accents were quite familiar, others

were vague, blunt aloof. Tones,

unknown, uncouth,

gritty, alien, bitty,

impromptu,

‘unfitty’,

                     ponderously bleak, weak, boldly, coldly,

prejudicial, peculiar, resentment laden,

confrontational,  incongruent, ridiculed

or forbidden, inadvertently ‘freak ’,

hostile, virile, fervently,

un-chic, un-sleek,

monotone, sterile,

furiously, volatile, unofficial,

                             harassing, overtly  pronounced,

intrusive, intimidating, elusive

when unannounced, One’s

reactions could be instant,

irrepressibly uneasy,

explicitly, illicitly

partial, bereft

verging on

futile.

I believe I need some rest

Author's Note

SHEEMA HUQ
I think that the intended, original shape of this poem, might suggest a souvenir from a holiday destination, a wonderful W African sculpture or artefact perhaps, the shape of this write was an organic process....

Unfortunately this program won't publish this poem to it's intended format....any suggestions would be much appreciated, thank you!!

Last week at work I realised there were 9 people in the room and 9 different nationalities.
This 'luggage' pedantically lugged around can be unfortunate in such situations, and sometimes it is difficult to remain light on your feet.
You do these things so well Sheema, I like this one

Hi, there Sheema. Nice concept. I love the last line.
Keep writing.

P.S. I have read your note. Have you fixed the problem about the format, or not yet?

I flew 140,000 miles a year from 2000 to 2004. You get used to it after awhile, and being a frequent flyer had it's perks but still, I know that uncomfortable, cranky need for my own bed feeling! Enjoyed reading. :)

Hey Mark, thanks for dropping by and for such an interesting review.
Sheema, just reading your poem reminds of the headaches that air travel can bring. And it has been 14 years, since I had, the fortune/misfortune to flight, here in Canada. But I fear, this things have gotten dramatically worse, since 9/11.

As for the formatting of your poem, I suggest you talk with the powers-to-be here, at Cafe. They might have a solution, to this. :) Welcome back, Sheema.
