HOVERING TREASURE

HOVERING TREASURE

A Poem by SHEEMA HUQ
"

poem

"

       A miniscule, wilful, exhibitionist,

         valiantly entered the garden premises,

surrounded by a worn teak, hexagonal trellis,

drawn instantly to the flame red tulips,

ignoring the jack in the pulpits,

         primroses, anemones and hyacinths,

how rare is this flamboyant sight,

         agile, precocious, light, feathered bright,

expending vast energy with spirited flight,

         fluttering forwards, reversing backwards,

then from side to side, compulsively moving

consumption ensuing,  using its  astute eyes,

defying, redefining, the very pace of time,

propelling it’s wings with high speed robotic

         gear, dissuading thoughts of yesteryear,

         flying jewel, hovering treasure,

equably lapping up, red flower nectar,

         the warm blooded Hummingbird’s

primal endeavour, with its long, protruding

beak of propensity, and pious reign of certainty.

The way you told the story was different and refreshing. Love your rhyming! I'm not good at that so I always appreciate it when others are, and you're great with it!

You're kind :)
very good description of the hummingbird I hear they must constantly feed to keep the strength to keep those little wings flapping so fast. Beautiful little birds that can intimidate some when they get to close haha

Yep, it's like that, all of that.

They are also quite aggressive toward each other, different colored birds have some kind of hierarchy, especially around a feeder.

Nature is so inspiring.
