CELLPHONECHIC

CELLPHONECHIC

A Poem by SHEEMA HUQ
"

POEM

"

automated hands,

   manicured politely,

quivering....hesitant,

  prone to slightly fidget

before reaching

for the personal,

high fashion, high tech,

communication gadget,

this gleaming, high priority,

public show accessory,

was handled, as if it were,

a prime life force, as if the very

meaning of life itself, depended upon,

displays of, borderline professional, bravado,

often causing phone induced,

confined, solitary alienation,

shrouded with a suggestive

barrage of condemnations.

the phone.
a portal
a window
through the soul of the user
to the victim of their desires..

the phone
a weapon
of mutual destruction
of the moment
we will never share
in peace...

the phone
an intent to be
with somone better
than you
intimately
in the
aire..

Great close-ups. This has a cinematographic feeling. Panning in with hypnotic allure and panning out with an important lesson. Micro to macro. Begs the question: have we all gotten too high on high tech? I would say yes!

It's getting worse with every generation. Toddlers now play with phones instead of toys. I thought they were toys for big kids like me! And I for one simply can't stay away from my phone or iPod. And life does not feel complete without gadgets :P Your poem displays it all with humor. I like it

Thanks so much Siren, it was interesting reading your comments
i don't own a cell phone. In fact, I don't own much of anything at all save this
keyboard in front of me and this half eaten box of Fiddle-Faddle. They seem to
declare publicly, typically insistently, prouly or defiantly that their presence
is in the room. And although they often come with cameras and speakers
and volumn controls, the user rarely uses it to integrate any sensory information
that it receives so that an action or reponse is generated. Like wanting to run
to the ocean or seeing the sun rise.

I love your thoughtful poetry.
thanks for sharing this,
dana

We are so enslaved by our technology that we have incorporated it into a fashion accessory! Nicely penned and I love the line about a prime life force.

Technology has its good and bad point... losing that personal touch when it comes to communication is one of them.
