LITTLE READER

LITTLE READER

A Poem by SHEEMA HUQ

Little Reader

 When you were just two,

books were there for you
to sabotage, with appetising corners to chew,
by the time you  reached three,

with a probing air,
you eagerly approach me,

asking, “ shall I read to you ? ”
“but you can’t yet read,” I plainly reply
As swiftly as a bumble-bee, you
hold open a hard-back grown-up's dictionary,
and suddenly, looking up, chuckling,
giddy….poised,  as if about to recite,
with all your tiny, quenching might,
firmly, you shut the book tight

and you diligently declare:
“Oops, I’ve just lost the page….n’night!”

So Cute! I love this...for tiny ones are full of wonderment and seek adventure. That's the magic of entertaining them through stories. Well penned!

Charming and witty. A wonderful moment of that magical interaction with the very young. Enjoyable to read.
