To Step Into The Cold Night

To Step Into The Cold Night

A Poem by Sean

Chimney stacks on cold nights,

street lights glowing through haze

of body warming fires

signaling all those unaware.

Stars shine in spite of it all,

the clouds and metro glow

that work to hinder their arrival.

Traveling years for a nightly appearance,

running longer than any Broadway show

and with a cast far more consistent.

Orion, Taurus, all of the ethereal

are present for the program

and even in the repetition

my mind marvels at it still,

but tonight my sense filled

with the aroma of the ashen wood,

the maple and oak rising as smoke

and glowing in the city lights.

For me, this was heaven.
