A King's End

A King's End

A Story by Just..... That German

He sat there pondering on what to write next. His hand stood still dangling the pen over the paper. He wondered if he should write of damsels in distress or even of far worlds and life there. Everytime his hand came closer to the paper it quickly jerked back with such ferocity that you would think that he was suffering from a seizure. Finally he leaned back and looked at the wall. On the wall, there were hundreds of awards of his many stories that were now classics. Putting down the pen, he rubbed his eyes and heard a voice behind him. "What are you doing?" said the voice. Turning around he saw the most beautiful thing in his life. His daughter walked over to him and climbed into his lap. Her big blue eyes looked at him and asked again, "what are you doing"? "I'm trying to write another story" replied the father. "Why? All of the others are enough don't you think"? And he thought, yes they are enough but are they enough for me? I mean I am the king right? Noone can compare to my writings. I am a surgeon when it comes to writing but I want more.

Somehow, it seemed that he had spoken every word out loud because his daughter said, "You will always be the king in my eyes. You made enough money to live forever and you will with all twenty of your books being in print". And that was true; he would live forever because he was the most read writer of his time and the money would feed his family for a few generations. Then it hit him. He was going to write his greatest story yet. "Molly? Will you go play? Daddy has work to do and don't worry, I'll play house with you when this is all over with". "Ok daddy" she replied as she had everytime her father had gotten into the writing zone. She took off running into the play room and all he could hear was laughter of a little girl who was lost in her own world of romance.

He turned to the pen laying next to the still plain sheet of paper. He picked up the pen with such enthusiasm and started writing at the top of the paper. He stopped and looked at what he wrote and was pleased as he read it aloud, "A King's End".
