A Journal entry

An old Journal entry from earlier in the year. I usually dont write Journal entries very often, but this one seemed decent. The names of people have been changed, but thats it.

The oddest thing happend today during creative writing. Usually I'm half asleep and my work reflects how unbarably early it is in the morning. But today was different. Sure I was still practically asleep, but for once I really enjoyed the promt we had to do. It was simple enough, just compose a six worded sentence that says who you are or how life is going for you at that moment. Most of the star pupils in class actually seemed to be having a difficult time, all the while I was coming up with one after another after another.

It was Great!

At the end of class we had to share our favorite one, and after going through my lists of sentences, I realized I didnt have one. But as the time became closer to being my turn, the perfect phrase popped into my head. As I said it out loud, everyone gave me questioning glances (even my best friend), but I said nothing of where it came from.

It came from a pretty simple thought. I remembered last summer, and how a few friends and I had found a shopping cart on the side of the road. It being nine O'clock at night we just couldn't pass up the opportunity. We grabbed the cart and ran up and down the streets, a different person riding in the cart each time. Finally when it came to being my turn, I completely refused. Knowing my friends they'd flip the thing over with me in it. Only one thing changed my mind. Scott came up behind me and scooped me up into his arms, and just before he dropped me into the cart he whispered into my ear that he wouldnt let anything happen to me. And I believed him.

First he pushed the cart slow, letting me get use to the bumpy ride, but then he took off running, pushing the cart fast enough to get down the street away from our other two nosy friends. Sam and Reese seemed to want to play match maker with us, but Scott and I needed to work things out on our own. When we were half way down the street he began to walk again. As I looked up to him I thought he might say something, but instead he just started humming to himself. Not even that but he also started to pretend to be grocery shopping! Placing invisible items into the cart. I'd asked him what in the world he thought he was doing, but he just smiled and kept humming while ignoring me. Surprisingly I couldn't keep myself from smiling back.

Finally he looked down at me and said "Sam and Reese said you had something to say to me." Then he gave me that sweet smile of his, knowing exactly what those two so called friends of ours were up to. That night we ended up having a long talk, and by the end of the summer we were dating. Everything had been going great, until a few months ago, but thats a whole other story.

So when I told my creative writing class my favorite six worded sentence, "Buying groceries isn't always so sweet" I couldnt help but smile. It was just a great way to confuse these people even more than usual.
