When We Know Each Other Better

When We Know Each Other Better

A Poem by Sarah

When We Know each Other Better

We’ve crossed paths and said hello

There is so much we don’t know

First name, last name, birthday

It’s ok if we don’t kiss on the first date

Learning what you like, what I like

Are we going on a second date

I don’t mind if you don’t mind

Taking it slow, one day at a time

You’re getting to know me

And I’m getting to know you

Moving at our own pace

Today, tomorrow, for forever

Maybe when we know each other better

A few weeks, a few months, let time tell

We have a thing and it’s going well

No need to put a ring on my left hand

Or rush into making wedding plans.

You’ve met my friends

And I’ve met yours

They’ve all checked yes

Meeting the parents, whenever

Date after date, now we’re more than a thing

I’ll say yes to changing my last name

Taking our time setting our date

It’s ok moving at our own pace

We’ve found out what we like

Lots of memories on our walls

Today, tomorrow, ‘til death do us part

Now we know each other better
