Scott hadn’t particularly liked that James and Yukito were sitting next to each other. It was nice that James got a first class seat, but having it right next to Yukito’s didn’t help. He wanted to go up there right now and tell Yukito to get his bottom in the back and then take his seat. Granted, having a morbidly obese person on either side of him didn’t help matters any. Sighing in resolve, Scott sat back in his seat as comfortably as he could, which was to say, he sat back and wished he were in trigonometry class instead.
Up in first class, Scott and Yukito were both settling into their rather spacey seats. James had just buckled in when a flight attendant gave him a small bottle of water.
“It’ll be about 20 minutes before we take off, so they are just making us comfy,” Yukito said as he noticed the slight bit of confusion on James’ face.
“Oh, okay. Will Scott and the others get one?” James asked.
“Naw, they are in the back. That’s for all the cattle,” Yukito said with a smile. “Now relax! It’s actually safer to fly than drive…especially to Japan!”
Laughing a little at Yukito’s joke, James looked around him. This was his first time on a plane – his first time seeing one actually, inside or out. It was still slightly confusing to him how a large, heavy, hunk of metal could fly, but he thought he’d leave the dynamics of that up to the people who knew what they were doing. Sighing back into his seat, he waited for take-off, putting faith in Yukito’s words.
The first few hours went by with little problems. James, after filling out the Immigration form, had fun with all the buttons and options that his seat had. Yukito joined in the fun and taught him how to recline. Mitch, Lance, and Quince, lucky enough to get seats right next to each other, talked for a little while, and then tried to get to sleep. Scott, on the other hand, tried to sleep but found it rather difficult since the people around him seemed to get larger the longer the flight lasted. He was afraid that by the time they reached Japan, he wouldn’t be left. Deciding he’d had enough, Scott put his head phones on and used Mr. Kato as a pillow. At least with the music on, he could pretend he had two rather uncomfortable comforters at his sides.
Then, the plane came upon a storm.
“Everybody, please return to your seats and buckle your seat belts. We are about to experience some turbulence. We aren’t sure how long it will last, but rest assured that you have nothing to fear. We’ll be out of this soon enough,” the captain said over the intercom. Groggily, Scott opened one eye and then closed it. This was a storm he couldn’t move. The areas below them needed the rain, but he did what he could to calm it a little.
Up front, James was a little worse off than Scott. He was nervous, but with each shake of the plane he reminded himself that Scott was in charge of the rain and was doing what he could to calm the storm down.
Yukito, on the other hand, was nervous. He grabbed James’ hand and said, “don’t let go! I’ve never flown without Mr. Kato before.” Pouting, he looked at James as if James were his savior.
“It’s okay. Scott will protect us,” James said as he smiled reassuringly at Yukito.
“…okay…” Yukito breathed out. Grasping James’ hand even harder, Yukito looked forward.
After about an hour, the ‘fasten seat belt’ sign clicked off. Noticing this, Yukito looked over at James. It seemed that the stress of the turbulence was enough to exhaust James because he was asleep in his seat. Smirking, Yukito undid his seat belt with one hand and crept over to James seat. Carefully undoing James’ seat belt, Yukito gently pushed James over to the side. Moaning a little, James settled into the side of his seat. On the other, Yukito lowered himself in and buckled them in, letting go of James’ hand. Snuggling into James neck, Yukito quickly fell asleep, arms wrapped around James.
Many hours later, James woke with half his body numb. Blinking multiple times, James looked over to see Yukito cuddling him in his sleep. Looking around confusedly, James couldn’t quite remember where he was.
A flight attendant came up to his seat, and gently said, “sirs, your going to have to
move. Breakfast will be in a couple of minutes, and then we’ll be landing shortly after that.”
Waking Yukito up, James told him the message. Lazily, Yukito unbuckled the seat belt and stretched. Flopping back against the seat, Yukito yawned. “I think that was the best I’ve ever slept on a flight,” he said smiling at James. “Thanks for the shoulder.” Kissing James on the check, Yukito stood and moved to his seat.
Breakfast was served, and after an hour, they landed. Once the plane was at the bay, the passengers were let out. Stretching as he stood, James reached into the overhead compartment to take out his bag and, with Yukito in front of him, exited the plane.
“Yukito,” James said as they exited the plane. “Shouldn’t we wait for the others?”
“We can wait at Immigration. As it is, we’d better move or else it’ll get congested right here, and everyone just wants to get off the plane at this point,” Yukito said as he scrunched up his nose. Turning, both he and James made their way towards Immigration. “Why don’t we go ahead and go through Immigration while there’s not so many people?” Yukito suggested as he looked towards the officers at their desks. There was hardly anyone there. At most, going through Immigration would take 10 minutes, and that was assuming James forgot his form on the plane and had to fill out a new one. “We can wait at customs. Oh, maybe we can go ahead and get their luggage out for them,” Yukito said as he grabbed James’ hand happily. “Okay, okay! You go through the foreigners part, and I through the Japanese one, and we’ll meet once we’re through!” Almost skipping off, Yukito headed towards the desks. James looked back and saw more people coming. Sighing, he went up to the desks and went through Immigration with no problem.
Meeting on the other side, Yukito grabbed James’ hand and they made their way towards Customs and baggage claim. “Oh! There’s no one here either!! Let’s go through Customs while it’s empty!!” Yukito exclaimed. Tugging on James’ hand, he looked pleadingly into James’ eyes. “Please?”
“But, shouldn’t we wait?”
“Naw, they’ll be fine. They fly into this airport at least once every year or two,” Yukito said as he continued to look pleadingly into James’ eyes. “Come on, the sooner we’re out the sooner we can get something to snack on!! Akito should be waiting for us!! I asked him to bring some snacks!! Come on, I’m hungry” Yukito pleaded with a tug on James’ hand.
“Okay, okay, we’ll go,” James said defeated.
“Good,” Yukito said as he pulled James behind him. Casting one last glance towards Immigration, James stumbled along behind Yukito.
Having no problem with Customs, Yukito lead James out into the main airport. Looking around quickly, Yukito saw a man in a nice suit and glasses. Walking up to him, Yukito said, “the others are coming, they’ll be along in a minute. This is James. Take good care of him. I have to go to the bathroom, I’ll be right back.” Turning towards James, he added “this is Akito, he’ll take care of you while I go to the bathroom, okay?” Without waiting for a response from James, Yukito took off towards the bathrooms.
“How do you do? I’m Akito, like Yukito-sama said. If there is anything you need, please ask me, okay?” Akito said with a pleasant smile. This rather tall man with hair combed back away from his face seemed like a nice guy. His suit fit him perfectly, and his glasses added a degree of intelligence that somehow didn’t seem bookish to James. “James-san, have you known Yukito-sama for very long?”
“Umm, no, I actually meet him just a few days ago. At least I think it’s a few. I have no idea what day it is now,” James said confusedly.
“haha,” Akito laughed sweetly, “is this your first time to Japan? The time change is rather confusing. I even get confused sometimes!” Looking back at James, Akito continued, “I’m amazed that Yukito-sama seems to be such good friends with you. Normally he takes a while to…befriend people.”
“Why is that?” James asked a little confused.
“He’s…he’s…a little difficult to handle. Sometimes he does things that aren’t exactly…selfless and ends up hurting people with his lack of caring,” Akito put gently. It was obvious that he was trying to say something not very nice in a polite way.
“Oh…but, he seems nice enough,” James said looking at Akito.
“Well, yes, if he likes you, he can be rather charming. Now, how was your flight? Are you hungry? Tired? Thirsty?”
“Nope, I’m good. Maybe a little tired, but I think it’s last night…or this ungodly early this morning for me.”
“Oh! It’s ungodly early,” Yukito said as he ruffled James’ hair.
They all made mindless talk as they waited for Scott, Lance, Mitch, and Quince to exit from Customs. Finally, after about 45 minutes, and 9 threats to leave them from Yukito, the four exited.
