"Hey! Scott! Wait up!” Quince yelled as he ran up to Scott. “Gosh, you walk fast!”
“Well, you just walk slowly!” Scott snapped at Quince. “…sorry. Yukito has really gotten to me. Come on, let’s stop at McCloud’s and get a couple of cheeseburgers and see what Mitch is up to,” Scott said as he turned his head slightly towards Quince with a small smile to try and reassure Quince.
“Yeah, okay. But, can I get a shake while we’re there? I wasted my soda on Yuuto.” ‘Yuuto’ was Quince’s nickname for Yukito. They both smiled as they walked towards the McCloud’s just slightly further down the street.
‘That Scott!! I’m going to have his head for this!’ thought Yukito as he and Lance entered Scott’s apartment. The snow hadn’t let up, and, as Lance closed the door behind the both of them, Yukito was very sure that it wouldn’t let up for a long while.
“Here, give me your shirt and I’ll go start the washing machine,” Lance said as he put his coat on the kitchen table. The soda mark remained vividly on Yukito’s shirt. Yukito took it off and threw it in the direction of Lance as he walked over to the window facing the city.
“Is there anything else you need washed?” Lance asked as he picked up Yukito’s shirt from where it had dropped on the floor.
“No. Leave once you start the machine,” Yukito said as he looked outside. It was snowing a little harder now. It looked like this would be one of the worst blizzards the town had seen in years.
“Perhaps you should calm down a little?” Lance said tentatively as he returned from putting the lone shirt into the washing machine. “If it keeps up, then people won’t be able to get home.”
“SHUT UP! Get out of here. If I want your opinion I will ASK for it. Okay?” Yukito said as the snow fell even faster.
“Please do not yell at me,” Lance said sternly as he turned and went to put on his jacket.
“Don’t be so disrespectful to me! I know what I am doing, and I don’t care about other people - especially people in this crap-shot of a town!” Yukito yelled at Lance’s turned back.
“Look, I know you are angry, but yelling at me, and creating a dangerous blizzard will solve nothing. You can’t be in control of everything, you know,” Lance said as he walked to the door. “Good-bye.” The door clicked shut behind Lance as Yukito stared at it angrily.
“Hey…what are you guys doing here?” Mitch asked as he opened the door to find Scott and Quince outside. He was dressed in a towel and had obviously not expected anyone to come for a visit.
“We brought food!” chirped Quince holding the overfull bag of hamburgers from McCloud’s.
To Mitch, the food smelled delicious – terrible for him, of course, but delicious none-the-less. “Is it just you two?” he asked as he moved aside so they both could get through.
“Yeah, just us,” Scott said when he entered into the apartment. It was a little cluttered with health magazines and some weight training equipment. Towels and clothes were lying scattered around the apartment. Mitch didn’t really like to clean, and it showed.
“Sorry for the mess…I haven’t had much time to clean lately…”
“It’s okay. We really didn’t know we were coming until Scott suggested it…and McCloud’s! I mean, who can resist their shakes,” Quince said as he sat on the sofa and pair of socks. Quince picked up the bag from Ringoby’s and opened the top container. “The food’s gotten cold, can I heat these up?” Quince said as he got up and went into the kitchen.
“Sure, kid, knock yourself out. If you don’t mind, I’ll go put on some clothes.”
“I’m gonna go talk to him, be back in a minute,” Scott said as he followed Mitch; leaving Quince all alone with all the food and a ravenous appetite.
“Hey, Mitch, you all right?” Scott asked as he entered Mitch’s room.
“Yeah, I’m fine. Just a little nude,” Mitch answered as he took a pair of boxers out of a drawer.
“No, I meant about whatever happened with Yukito?” Scott said, adverting his eyes from the now changing Mitch.
“Yeah…I’ll live,” Mitch said sternly as he tore a pair of pants out of the closet. “If you don’t mind, never bring that up again.”
“Okay…I just wanted…”
“DROP it, okay.”
“Yeah, sorry. I’ll go see if there is any food left over,” Scott said as he exited the room. Scott had a pretty good idea what happened and was darn sure Mitch never wanted to think about it again.
Quince was at the kitchen table eating, luckily, his own food. Scott went over to the sofa where the other food had been placed and brought them to the kitchen. There, he took out his hamburger and popped it in the microwave, then went to the stove and put water in the kettle and placed it on the heating range. He then placed two mugs on the table, and filled them with instant coffee. “You want one Quince?”
“Naw, I’m good - still got my shake. Oh wait; does he have any flavored creamer?”
Scott walked over to the refrigerator and looked. There wasn’t much inside – some vegetables, some sandwich meat, half a loaf of bread, milk, some water, and a bottle of creamer. “Yeah, he’s got ‘pumpkin pie-spice’ creamer,” Scott said as he took it out to examine it.
“I like pumpkin pies, what can I say – it’s my secret fetish,” Mitch said jokingly as he entered the kitchen and went to the table and looked into the bag. “Which ones are mine?”
“I’d say all of ‘em, but Quince might grab one before you finish. We weren’t sure how hungry you were, so we thought to get 6, and then made it 12 for good measure,” Scott said as he placed the creamer on the table and got down another mug. The microwave beeped, so Scott took out his food and put it on the table. “Wanna heat up your burgers?”
“Naw, they’ll get soggy,” Mitch replied as he grabbed the first one and unwrapped it. It was delicious to Mitch. He seldom had McCloud’s food, but he always enjoyed it when he did. He was just about to pick up his second one when Quince spoke.
“Do you think Yuuto-sama will let up anytime soon?” At the mention of Yukito Mitch put down his burger. He seemed to have lost all his appetite. Standing up from the table, he went over to the range to help make the coffee.
