Asu Mo Furu Kana: I Wonder If It Will Fall Tomorrow Too: Chapter 5A Chapter by SDMcCartyScott finds James and takes him back to his apartment, but, a mysterious man shows up at Scott's place. Who could he be? What does he want? Will Scott be okay? What about James?‘His clothes are soaked. He can’t keep them on or he’ll freeze,’ Scott thought as he entered his apartment. Mitch followed close behind with James in his arms. Scott was lucky enough to come across Mitch as he was returning to his apartment. James was small and not too heavy but Scott wasn’t strong enough to carry him all the way from the playground. Mitch, on the other hand, played football, did track, and weight trained almost every day, so the small boy was nothing to him. “We have to change his clothes or he’ll catch a cold,” Mitch said once he had entered Scott’s apartment. “Do you have a shirt he can use? You’re bigger than him so I don’t know if pants would fit him, but a shirt should be fine.” “Yeah, here, bring him into my room,” Scott said as he turned on the lights of the living room and started to walk toward his room. Scott turned on the lights of his room as he walked in. At once he turned toward his closet where he started to look for a shirt for James. Mitch entered and laid James down on the bed. He began to take off James’ clothes just as Scott came up behind him with a nightshirt. “Here, this should work. It’s from when I was younger, but it should be able to fit him,” Scott said as he plopped the shirt down on the bed next to James. “Wow…he is really skinny. He looks like a child,” Mitch said as he took off James’ shirt. “He is a child in more ways than one,” Scott added as he started to take off James’ pants. “I’ll go make some hot water and get a towel. Help to warm him up,” Mitch stated as he left the room and headed toward the small kitchenette. He had been to Scott’s apartment many times and knew his way around well. He didn’t take him long to find a kettle for the water or a towel. It only took about a minute for the water in the kettle to get warm enough. Mitch poured some of the water into a bowl which already had the towel in it and left to go to Scott’s room. He opened the door and found Scott sitting next to the bed looking at James. James had been changed and was lying under Scott’s sheets. Mitch didn’t enter yet. He left from the door frame and returned with a towel. He entered the room and threw the towel onto Scott’s head. “Here, dry his hair. You lose the most head from your head you know. So, it’s better to make sure that his hair is dry so he won’t freeze.” “Yeah…” Scott said as if paying half attention. “So…what happened between you and your little prince?” asked Mitch as he put the bowl of hot water on the table next to the bed. “I killed his dad…” Scott said as he moved toward James’ head with the towel. “I honestly doubt you did it…I mean, that is just impossible.” “He died in the rain…James’ dad…He blames me…” “You mean the rain…?” questioned Mitch as he wrung out the towel. “Same thing really. I mean, think about it. I make the rain. I killed his dad,” said Scott as he laid James’ head back down on the pillow. “I don’t think he honestly blames you. It’s not your fault. I’m sure there were other factors involved. The only technical way the rain could have killed him is if he drowned in it…which is very difficult to do…almost impossible I’d say,” Mitch stated as he handed the towel to Scott to put on James’ head. “Now, where are his clothes, I will go put ‘em in the dryer and then be off. I got work tomorrow so I better be getting off. See ya!” Mitch said as he hurriedly said as he grabbed James’ wet clothes and left the room. “You know,” Scott said to James as he dabbed the warm towel to James’ head, “snow is worse than rain could ever be? It creates terrible disasters like black ice, ice, avalanches, frostbite, and…” “And rain can cause mudslides, big deal. Both are deadly in their own way,” said a voice from the door way. It was not Mitch, but Scott couldn’t place it right away. “Omae, genki?” © 2008 SDMcCartyAuthor's Note
