Asu Mo Furu Kana: I Wonder If It Will Fall Tomorrow Too: Chapter 4A Chapter by SDMcCartyA shonen-ai story about a boy and his tutor. James runs off into the rain, will Scott find him?“I love the rain. It’s so refreshing and invigorating,” Scott said as he stepped outside into the downpour. James could hardly believe it. Not only not only had Scott stepped out into the downpour with out an umbrella or any sort of protective covering, but he also loved the thing James hated most and hated the thing James loved the most. They were complete opposites in every way. Scott was smart, athletic, and popular; while James was basically an idiot, clumsy, and lucky to have two friends. Everything about them was opposite. “I…I…I can’t go out into that!” James said as he looked into the storm with fear. “Oh…you need an umbrella? There is a dollar store across the street so I’ll quickly go over there and buy you one. Wait here,” Scott said as he turned and ran across the street. James didn’t know what to do. If he knew that there was going to be rain, he never would have left his bed. But the weather forecast had said nothing about rain. In fact, it was the complete opposite, it forecasted nothing but sun! James watched in fear as cars passed by, going way too fast for the weather. Each time one went by, James flinched. He longed to go back inside the café, but they were closing and had already locked the doors. Scott came running back with the umbrella. He touched James on the shoulder. “Here you go. It was the only one that wasn’t pink so I hope it’s okay!” he said as he handed James the umbrella. James jumped slightly at his words. James could not bring himself to even touch the umbrella. “Here,” said Scott softly as he tried to hand the umbrella to James one more time. “I…I…can’t go out into that,” James repeated in a low voice filled with fear. Scott looked into James’ face. He saw the fear and anxiety that James was feeling. “Do…do you hate the rain…?” Scott asked quietly as if whatever James answered was the most important thing to him. “I…I…hate it…”replied James who looked like he was about to cry. “But why? Without rain there would be no life, no…” “Without rain my dad would be alive!!” James yelled as tears ran down his face. “He died because of the rain…I will never forgive the rain for that, NEVER!” he screamed as he ran off. James hardly even noticed that he was running in the rain that he hated so much. Scott stood there unable to move. It seemed that the boys answer had hurt him severely. He dropped his head as it began to rain harder. “Waah! It’s been raining for hours now! And it’s gotten so heavy,” Quince said as he tried to balance his drink bottle, and sandwich while keeping the umbrella over both himself and Lance. “Do you think Scott’s okay? I mean it’s never rained this much while he was pretty happy…” inquired Lance as he took the umbrella gently from Quince’s troubled hands. “Maybe something happened between him and that boy,” Quince wondered out loud as he took a sip from his drink. “You’re going to end up getting fat if you continually eat and drink like that you know,” Lance said as he looked down at the boy devouring his sandwich. “Could you at least chew the food next time?” “Hey, some of us don’t need to keep our girl-like figures okay? Back off, will ya’,” Quince said as he swallowed his sandwich. “Lance, Quince,” said a voice from behind them. Quince jumped slightly at the sudden mention of his name. They both turned around and saw Scott completely drenched and tired looking. “Have either of you seen James?” he inquired when they had both faced him. “That boy you were tutoring?” asked Quince. “Want some?” he asked as he offered Scott some of his drink. “The boy…he has short brown hair and would be around Quince’s size, right?” inquired Lance as he looked off into the playground. “Yes, but he is smaller than Quince actually. Skinner,” Scott answered a little more energetically. “He is over there in the playground,” Lance said as he nodded his head in the direction of where James was. “Thanks!” Scott said as he ran off toward the boy. “Let’s go now shall we?” said Lance as he started to continue down the street. “I’ll buy you a dinner snack,” tempted Lance. “I want some sushi!” said Quince happily as he followed Lance. “James…” Scott said gently as he crouched down beside the plastic tunnel James was hiding in. “You’ll catch a cold if you stay out…” James didn’t respond. Scott gently touched James to see if he was all right. He gently lifted up his head and saw that James had fallen asleep in the playground. Scott took off his jacket and placed it over James. He lifted the small boy up and started off. ‘It can’t be helped; I have to take him to my apartment. He can’t stay here, he’ll freeze and I don’t know where he lives…’ Scott thought as he walked toward his apartment. © 2008 SDMcCartyAuthor's Note
