Asu Mo Furu Kana: I Wonder If It Will Fall Tomorrow Too: Chapter 2A Chapter by SDMcCartyA shonen-ai story about a boy and his tutor. James and Scott continue to study, but something is amiss...James had stayed in the shower longer than usual. Today he decided to take a bath instead. He wanted to try to relax. The bath seemed to help, but as soon as he entered his room, his burden returned. One glance at his school bag and textbooks made him remember earlier that day. ‘I wonder if it’s possible to avoid Scott for the next 7 months,’ James wondered as he sat down at his desk. He looked to see what homework he had for that night. It was Friday, so maybe he could put it off for a bit. But, that wouldn’t be good either. If he didn’t do it tonight, chances are that he would do it Sunday night in a hurry. Luckily the night’s homework was only in two classes; Japanese and English. For English, read the next three chapters in The Great Gatsby (by F. Scott Fitzgerald), and for Japanese, learn the vocab and grammar for the test on Monday. Each week was the same in that class. Monday; test. Tuesday; introduce new vocab. Wednesday; learn the kanji and grammar as well as a vocab test. Thursday; grammar test. Friday; oral exam. Tuesday’s were the easiest. There was no sort of quiz or test. James could do Tuesday’s, but Monday’s and Friday’s he hated. He never did very well on the tests, and he always froze when he had to speak. It was hard enough to speak in English, his native tongue, at times. But they expected him to do it in another language? It was really hard for him. If it wasn’t for the fact that he needed a minimum of two years of a foreign language to graduate, he would never have even tried. Granted he could have taken Italian, or Russian, but Italian’s grammar is extremely difficult, and Russian was not a language that he ever wanted to learn. James decided upon reading. The mere thought of Japanese brought the day’s events back to his mind. That was not something that he wanted to remember. He thought it best to lose himself in the fake world that was written by an author long gone who probably never had a teacher who hated him and hired a tutor who would hate him just as much as the teacher. A few hours later James awoke to the sound of hard rain on his window. ‘Umm, 10? I should go to bed…it’s getting late,’ James wearily thought as he rubbed the sleep from his eyes. He had gotten 2/3 of the way done with his homework. School work wasn’t his thing. He knew that he couldn’t get into a good college and that even if he did by some strange miracle, he would fail out the first semester. Some people just aren’t meant for school, and James was one of those people. ‘I think I can work at a family restaurant…or am I too dumb for that as well?’ James thought as he drifted off into an uneasy sleep. “Yo, Scott! What took ya? Not out of practice are ya?” jested the sturdy male who beckoned Scott from across the room. “What’ll it be?” “I’ll have whatever, just make sure it’s strong,” said Scott to his male friend. “It’s getting colder sooner than normal. Do you think that he’ll be coming soon, Mitch?” “Here ya go, Scott-on-the-rocks! Let’s go over to the others and talk, okay?” They walked over to a table in the back. Two others were sitting there. One looked about 16 with rebelliousness to his outer appearance that made him seem fun loving, yet tough. The other looked about 18, but had more gentle features. It was hard to tell is this person was male or female from just looking. There was a grace and natural beauty that gave the impression of a female, yet, if you looked hard enough at the eyes, you could see a coldness and strength that most males possessed in days of old. “’Sup. Good job, Scott, I can hear it from here,” said the youth. “But, I heard the mountains gave you some trouble, losing your touch are we?” “Shut-up, brat. I’ve had enough of brats for the day,” Scott said as he sat down in a huff. “All underclassmen should need permission to speak!” “Aw, that’s a little rough isn’t it? I mean if we never let them speak, then how would we ever know which ones are the dumb ones and which are just good at faking it?” asked the other with a slight gleam in the eye. “Ahh, whateva. As long as they stay outta my way, I’m good,” said Mitch as he sat back on the sofa and downed his drink. “Hey, do ya’ll think that he’ll be comin’ soon?” “I heard that he would be coming for the second semester, so it’s a little early for him. He has about a month and a half to wait if he does come soon,” said the beauty taking a sip from their drink. “But, Lance, it has gotten colder lately. Like at night sometimes it gets pretty cold…granted, not freezing, but at least 40 degrees,” said the younger one as he put down his empty glass. They all went quiet after that. Scott looked slightly saddened by what he had heard. He downed his drink in one gulp and stood up to leave. “Hey! Where ya goin’?” asked Mitch as he grabbed Scott’s arm to try to stop him from leaving. “I think you guys were right, I must be out of practice. I feel tired suddenly. I am going home, so if you’ll please release my arm, I will see you all later,” Scott replied. Mitch reluctantly let go of Scott’s arm and sat back down. They all knew that Scott really wasn’t tired, but there was no use arguing. Scott would end up leaving anyway and whoever argued with him would probably have a bloody nose.
