to boys and girls

to boys and girls

A Poem by S.E. Conway

to the boys

yes, boys
not men, but boys
you need to be a good child
to be a good son
you have to be a good son
to be a good brother
you have to be a good brother
to be a good influence
you have to be able to help yourself
before you can say you help others
you have to be a good influence,
to be a good friend
you have to be a good friend
before you can be a good boyfriend
you have to be a good boyfriend
to be a good husband
you have to be a good husband
to be a good father
you have to be a good father
to be a good grandfather
you have to trust others
to be trusted
you have to treat others lavishly
to reap the rewards of your care
you have to do things yourself
to get others to do things for you
you have to work for others
before you can work for yourself
you have to be good to you
before you can have others see you the same

if a son doesn't treat his mother kindly and with respect
how will he treat his wife?
if a husband doesn't treat his wife lovingly and with respect
how will he treat his sons and daughters?
if you don't show her you care
how will she know you do?

to the girls

you have to be a good child
to be a good daughter
you have to be a good daughter
to be a good friend
you have to be a good friend
to be a good girlfriend
you have to be a good girlfriend
to be a good wife
you have to be a good wife
you be a good mother
you have to be treated right
to treat others without remorse
you have to know who is there for you
so you are not alone
you have to stand up for yourself
so you do not get destroyed
you have to remember who you are
so you are not erased

even the best of men
even the best of women
when put together
can make the earth shatter with pain
tear apart the youth of their children
corrupt the young ones sight of reality
and ruin their ability to see
just how wonderful life can be

a boyfreind can ruin you inevidably
a mother or father
can tear you apart forever without them even touching
your skin

be the best you can be
and see if you are what you think you are, because you can't say you are a great ____(husband) without being the best _____(son).

-pass it on
love,
meghan
