forgotten teritory

forgotten teritory

A Poem by S.E. Conway

beliefs lain in stone
the culture plastered in our present day
masterpieces
the formula for life
sprawled across landscapes of buildings
triumphs
continuous praise on the misunderstood ways
of a forgotten people
of a culture long ago
when all was simple
intelligence as not just a way to be
but a way of life
knowledge treasured
as if handed down by gods
love and tenderness
war and sacrfices
willingly giving life for each other
selflessly handing over effort for the whole
why can we not see these self accommodation today
with one another
are we worse?
are we smarter?
no
we are selfish
looking on to unknown promises of nothing
from people who should not be trusted
thinking only of ourselves
loving others only for what we can receive

you should do things for others
for the sake of doing so
do things like they did
as the people forgotten long ago

A good sentiment and one sadly true. People have forgotten over the centuries how to live with one another without always asking the question, What about me? There were some small spelling errors but other than that I liked it.
