The ExitA Poem by S.A. RollisonBeyond the fog appears an Exit
The Exit-
The fog was so thick this morning it made the world disappear. Walking on the beach with nothingness in front and behind me. In that moment, I knew the Exit was on the other side of that opaque wall of nothing. I could leave. There was another world. A beyond the fog. Another time. Another universe. If I kept walking towards the Exit I might be able to leave. My feet kept going, farther than I had walked before. Past the pier, walking further and further south. There were only a few people out in the fog. They didn't seem to notice the Exit, though to me it seemed like a giant gaping door with a neon sign above it. I knew at a certain point I had to turn and walk back. My cell was dead. I was alone. Had to check on my car. People probably wondering where I am. I looked one last time at the Exit. I wasn't brave enough. I let this material world pull me back in. I turned left and walked back to my car on the street. Maybe there will be another foggy morning, maybe there will be another Exit, maybe I'll be brave enough to let go. For one moment, I could see a world beyond this one, beyond the Exit. © 2016 S.A.
