Only For Witches

Only For Witches

A Story by The Doctor
"

A married couple adopt a child, unaware of her true identity, which is a witch.

"Leave me alone!" Cried an old lady in her sleep. In her dreams, she had imagined an ugly, grumpy and highly evil
witch, attempting to curse her soul with her uses of dark spells.
The old lady had woken from her dream, panting and breathing heavily, unable to take control of her entire body.
She was unable to move a single body part, as she laid flat on her back in bed. All was ever so quiet, until a
few seconds later when the lady heard the sound of someone's scream in pain and agony. She had no idea where it was
coming from, but would soon be finding out, for when the screaming had stopped, an unusual shadowy mist could be seen
right before the lady's eyes. This shadowy figure turned from blackness to some sort of life form.
There stood the witch from the old lady's nightmare, and as she laid helpless and frightened in her bed, the witch
walked towards her, placing her hands across her chest, closed her eyes and spoke the words:
"Tonight I stand before this old woman, poor and defenseless. I now give myself the power
to weaken and destroy this human, and forever remain immortal."
After these words were spoken, a dark, dull light appeared in the center of the room, spreading everywhere. The witch had
disappeared, and the old lady's body had turned to black ash.

One year later, a married couple had decided to adopt a seven year old girl, Frankie Blake. The couple who adopted Frankie
were known as Mr and Mrs Edwards. They were kind, loving people that any family would be lucky to have.
It was now Winter time, in the middle of November. Frankie and her new parents had gotten along very well, and they had
developed a strong connection with each other, as one big happy family.
In just two days from now, it would be Frankie's 8th birthday. She had went on and on about it for the past month, and her
parents had asked her if there was anything special that she wanted, and there was, what Frankie wanted for her birthday
more than anything in the world, was a spellbook for children.
Frankie was always a well behaved child, she had never once caused any trouble and so she had received what she wanted most.
A birthday party was being arranged for Frankie, all friends and family had been invited. The party wasn't for another two
days, and an impatient Frankie couldn't think of anything other than her party throughout the past couple of days.
When her big day finally came, she had woken up extra early, full of excitement.
As she was changing her clothes, her parents were standing right outside her bedroom door, listening to her sing her heart
out.
As Frankie was making her way to the family room, passing the front door, she had noticed a pile of mail laying on the floor.
There appeared to be all different colors of envelopes, addressed to Frankie. Each envelope contained a birthday card from
all of Frankie's friends and relations. Of course not absolutely everyone could have sent Frankie a birthday card, although
she did receive cards here and there at different times. At about 8.00am, it was time for breakfast.
Mr and Mrs Edwards had made Frankie a very special breakfast, including crossiants, orange juice, toast, bacon and baked
beans, and after breakfast was served, Frankie had dug right into it, as if she hadn't been fed for days.
Sitting erect, covered all over in beans and orange juice, Frankie excused herself to the bathroom to clean off.
Before anyone could do anything, the house was in need of a good clean, and so Mrs Edwards had immediately started
to work at polishing, hovering, dusting and clearing the house from top to bottom.
Just a little while later, a few hours before the party was about to begin, the Edwards were taking memorable photographs
of each other and various places around the house, for future memory. Out of nowhere, a storm had struck, which was bad
news for everyone as they were hoping to take Frankie on a special day out. As the storm grew stronger and
stronger, all hell had broke loose, due to a tantrum Frankie had caused. Neither Mr Edwards nor his wife knew what was
wrong with Frankie, or how to calm her down. Full of absolute anger and sudden depression, Frankie went straight upstairs
to her bedroom. Both Mr and Mrs Edwards went to talk to Frankie, wondering what on earth had possesed her to act
so strangely. Frankie could feel a cold teardrop run down the side of her cheek, she felt alienated. Eventually she
began to settle.
New plans were going to take affect, although the weather was terribly nasty, the party was still being held, only it
would be happening inside the house. Cabs were sent out to those that were invited.
More and more guests had arrived after quite some time, tables with food and drink were all set up, along with
music and games. Every guest was welcomed with an ice cold served drink, adults were given the alcholic served drinks
while the children each received small bottles of apple and cherry flavoured juice drinks.
Meanwhile as the party had started, there was a whole pile of gifts that laid on top of the table for Frankie to open.
All in all, things seemed to be going rather well, no trouble was caused, and everyone was having a bliss time.
As far as anyone was concerned, this was definately a day to remember for the rest of their lives. All the children
in the room were running about like headless chickens, bursting with energy. The adults in the room gathered one
another for a chit-chat, and as time advanced, the party grew quieter as guests were leaving.
For Frankie, she had the time of her life, the best thing about it was the gifts she had gotten. Mrs Edwards had remembered
that her daughter said she wanted a child's spell book, although it occured to her that Frankie was never once
interested in magic or spells, and couldn't figure out why she had wanted a spell book on such short notice.
