Sleeping in Bear Clothes

Sleeping in Bear Clothes

A Poem by Santiago Veracruz

News of your arrival was never mentioned
On the day of my birth
The doctor's carefully thought out tests
could not pick up your scent
Your vile presence was not yet known
while my cheeks were red and round

During private school you clung to the shadows
nipping at every school girls waist line
every school teachers too
No Sin burdened rich man
or sullen headmistress could escape
yet I was still spared

Your grimy, black goo oozed from every hall
Covering cool kids, jocks, nerds and geeks alike
It was then that we met, you drove him into a corner
and brutalized him repeatedly, for three gruesome years
I shut my mouth, grit my teeth and did
what people wanted me to do
I made you Laugh.

And so I was Spared!
Ladies and gentleman, I was given a box to sit in
I had my very own box, a box of letters, words and thoughts
Of numbers, figures, and salaries

But now as the clock strikes twelve
We are all found, alone
locked in and strapped tight
Ripe and tender, ready for the slaughterhouse

And so we were severed
Made whole again, made exquisite
leave nothing, take little
and embody the moment
