Laura

A Poem by Santiago Veracruz

The sweet scent of Camellias still awaits your return
The metallic glow of stainless steel pines still call your name
The Screams and the Howls of the ironclad ogres who own the dark passages
Angels and Wild things saunter about, searching for you
Time slows, waves do not arrive at shores, stars do not give light
Only the dreams do not cease, the merciless dreams and their murderous ways
Creep past the guards, shout from the watchtower and sing the songs of old
Of days since past, days of sweet, sweet memories, of laughter and deception
And they wait, I wait, the Moon and her offspring will not manifest
The period you end with, that is what I shall be
Not the first ray of sun, but the later, more harsh one
Not the first flower of spring but the last evergreen
Not our first fated meeting but our last exquisite encounter
These forest will not forget, it is forever recorded upon the rings of it's soul
But time will not falter, waves will do as they please and stars will scintillate
Only I remain, upon my throne of feathers, waiting for the heavens to blossom
