Heavenly King

Heavenly King

A Chapter by Ryosei Takashi Hime
"

This is one of my favorites. I love the whole concept of the Sleeping King. It's always been a favorite of mine. Most people identify the Cheshire Cat as a god figure of Wonderland but I usually tend to lean more towards the Red King myself. I like the Ch

"

Upon waking, cold and scared

Alice did abruptly stand.

She looked about, fists prepared

Yet she did not understand.

Had she not awakened the king,

Plunged the world into darkness?

Did the reaper's bells yet ring,

Or were church bells such a likeness?

The holy house in which she stood

Was as cold and empty as a tomb.

She knelt - she felt she should -

And gazed into the gloom.

It was not long before she did see

A strange sight in this strange place.

A man at the altar, kneeling like she,

With a stern and handsome face.

The slumbering king had indeed woken

For he now stood before her, regal and grand.

She had not but a word spoken

When he reached for her small hand.

She felt her body shake.

Her hand was pulled with gentle force.

And from her he did take

All of her pain and remorse.

Now in his embrace

She could feel her soul aglow.

She stared into his handsome face

As the feeling continued to grow.

And now her cheeks did overflow

With tears none had heeded.

Her heart did release sorrow and woe

For all the love she had needed.

The Red King did not speak until

Her sobs had quieted and her cheeks dried.

"Your journey will be one fought uphill,

For many you've met have unjustly died."

Alice could not cry at their lost souls,

The Red King's eyes a soothing gray.

As he reached for the altar scrolls

He did not glance away.

"One lonely woman love has lost,"

He spoke, placing them in her hand.

"Another's pride, greed has cost,

For a palace large and grand."

"Children wild and free,

To inflict suffering and torment.

A woman frozen by what she can't see

Her life in twain jealousy has rent."

"A Queen's rage unjustly inflamed,

By freedom taken and surely deserved.

A strange man remains unnamed,

A sleeping beauty death has preserved."

"These events I have sensed,

Though star crossed lovers will aid in the end.

Yet still be warned against

A demon who marks himself a friend."

With this last warning the Red King fell.

His eyes closed and he slept once again..

Alice heard faintly the sound of a yell

And suddenly found herself in a filthy den.
