Roads of Childhood

Roads of Childhood

A Poem by Rylan_l

Roads of Childhood

I realized I don’t see the faces anymore,

the faces in the cars,

the ones with the bright, winking eyes,

the elongated smile just above the wheels.

How long has it been?

When I was young,

I saw a moon that chased me

wherever I went…

a friend always with me,

no matter how far

How long has it been?

I realized I don’t see the cloud factories anymore,

the concrete castles

that huffed and puffed

the cumulus into the sky.

How long has it been?

When I was young,

death was cured by a kiss,

it was an unwelcome movie character,

some intangible demon,

that was unbeknownst to me.

How long has it been?

Sitting here,

in this moving iron box,

watching the clouds of smog

escape from the polluting factory,

illuminated by the inanimate lunar light,

and feeling my memories marred by death,

I wonder…

how long has it been,

since the roads of childhood

began receding behind me?

there's truth here...you have a good grasp on imagery and evoking feeling..but i feel like the repetitive 'How long has it been?' and 'when i was young' lines take away from the good meat of your poem; that being said, however, I do think it works fine in the last stanza. keep writing.
