A Failure of Love

A Failure of Love

A Poem by Thomas Ryan

When first our eyes met, a spark caught the air,

Two souls at a crossroad, a promise to share.

We laughed under skies, through day and night,

Bound by dreams, holding on tight.

But slowly the echoes of passion grew faint,

The whispers of love turned silent and quaint.

The fire that blazed now flickered and waned,

And what was once joy turned into pain.

In the moments of silence, doubts crept in,

The distance between us wore thin.

Words that once healed now sharpened and tore,

The magic we found felt like folklore.

We tried to rekindle, to find what was lost,

But love at a bargain comes at a cost.

No longer the same, we drifted apart,

Two broken halves of a once-whole heart.

A friendship forged in the light of day,

Now falters in shadows, slipping away.

The smiles and laughter, the plans we devised,

Lost in the haze of truths disguised.

For falling in love isn’t always the end,

Sometimes it’s a lesson, a wound that won't mend.

Between us, a silence, an unspoken plea,

Of a love that once was but could never be.

So here we stand, with the remnants of us,

Two guys once entwined, now covered in dust.

The failure of falling, a bittersweet song,

Of how something so right can turn so wrong.
