A Lonely Old Christmas.A Poem by Thomas RyanAmidst the snowflakes' gentle descent, A solitary figure in silence, I stand, Embraced by memories, bittersweet, In this wintry scene, where echoes meet. The hearth crackles with a quiet flame, Casting shadows of what once became. Traditions cherished, laughter bright, Now whispered echoes in the night. A lonely old Christmas, stars aglow, Recollections dance, soft and slow, Familiar tunes hummed in the air, Mingling with the scent of despair. The chair sits empty by the tree, Beside it, space where you used to be, Gatherings past, with joy untold, Now tales within the hearth's cold. Outside, the world's serene disguise, Yet within, a hollow, longing sighs, For company lost, a heart yearns deep, In these quiet hours, where sorrows seep. But in solitude, a solace found, Reflections twine, memories abound, A touch in thought, a fleeting glance, A lonely old Christmas, in this poetic dance. Through teardrops that adorn this night, A resilience sparks, a flickering light, For though alone, love's spirit thrives, In whispered echoes that our heart derives. So here, beneath the starry sky's expanse, A lonely old Christmas finds its stance, In cherished moments, past and new, Wishing joy to hearts, both mine and you. May this lonely old Christmas eve, A tender solace, a peace relieves, For in the quiet, a beauty lies, In memories treasured 'beneath wintry skies. © 2024 Thomas Ryan |
