A Lasting LoveA Poem by Ruth Martz
I want a lasting love
the kind that never fades the type that says do your thing and we will catch up later knowing that having time alone doesn’t take away from us I want a lasting love that goes through struggles knowing we have each other’s backs I want a lasting love that looks at me and knows I can take the truth even if it hurts but gives it gently better than a lie I want a lasting love that lasts through the years knowing we have aged but knows the memories of when we met are better than it gets I want a lasting love that knows my body Is out of shape because of the love we shared between us and the babies that we made The happiness of coming together in secret places others can’t intrude upon either making it worse or better it’s the best we give to each other even if it wasn’t always good I want a love that stays true and hallowed that values my ideas and opinions enough to make them better constructing conversations in the dark even with a cup of coffee I want an everlasting love that holds my hand and comforts us that way I want an everlasting love that knows comprising is best even if I do not like it, I know my turn will come I want an everlasting love that lays it’s head upon a pillow next to mine whispers I love you and I always will before we go to sleep I want a lasting love that grows stronger everyday we eat whatever we want, whenever we want knowing a bowl of ice cream for breakfast doesn’t hurt a thing I want an everlasting love that can never be taken away though time has slowed us down you wait patiently for me I want a lasting love that transcends death upon this earthly plain that is when I can finally say I have an everlasting love not had a lasting love. © 2022 Ruth MartzReviews
