Sunflower

Sunflower

A Poem by RuseInex

stumbling in the dark in the mid day sunshine
with eyes to see but blinded by the glare

i'm startled,
staring at the myriad miniature flowerlets,
in the center of a sunflower,
captivated by the brightest yellow of the largest outward,
the lengthy, silky smooth petals,
the pungent fragrance emanating from the dark, spongy center

it's scented essence
wafts and clings to my everything,
to my skin it clings

it is a wild, intoxicating odor
common to all who know this composite flower,
with its tiny flowers within its large flower head,
like a face,
roundish and
wonderous,
a phenomenon,
a bold beauty,
a living thing,
standing alone
and beautiful,
wild,
in a rocky field,
stark and brave before the blue of sky,
of the face
of the space
it occupies

it stares back
for anyone to take the time to look and study

others will see past it
maybe victims of haste

i revel in reflection
of this bit of creation

i revel in the
reflection of a greater reality
of the hidden glory it portrays,
as in,
"let there be light"
dare to occupy this space

in this very moment,
i am bathed in light,
light that is more than just particle waves, more than electromagnetism

light that is from the kingdom of light that lives
light that is more than just particle waves, more than physical energy

i feel energy
as the sunlight flicks upon its photosynthetic skin

it takes the time away from myself
i breathe the sweet spirit of the Holy Spirit,
the Spirit of God who made you and me
and sustains us
and wants our attention

sometimes just a flower growing,
that bows to the sun,
tht follows its course during the passing of the day,
moving across its designated path to zenith,
then falls along the lines of sky,
toward the end of day, to the terminating point of horizon's line,
where you can watch a painted atmosphere
and contemplate the start of dusk,
a dimming of dying light left from the hiding sun,
while slowly enter in,
the stars of night, vastly far away
shining earth, God's footstool

with patience wait for them to sparkle,
that helps us dream
as our eyes adjust,
while you hear and feel the ticking of your heart

i feel peripherally,
the presence of intelligence,
hiding in the surrounding bushes

its late by night,
early measured,
by the wee hours of morning

following my curiosity,
i sense it wanting,
a piece of my soul,
wanting to take,
then extinquish
my life with its darkness,
its cold malevolent energy

it will feed of your energy,
take you on a wayward path of hurt and kill,
but for the grace of God,
and his protection
you'd be lost

it is so easy,
so simple to just concede,
entropy takes no effort,
its what's left of energy expended

i'd only have to lay me down for just a little while,
to sleep

though i walk through the valley of death i shall fear no evil,
for thy rod and staff strengthen me

the sunflower's face is bowed under starlight now,
but i see its face still shines,
refracting particles of stars' rays onto my face
it lets me sleep
nestled by its sturdy
stem
its grey petals will still be there,
shining radiant yellow by morning
