     Captain Xorztgh's Intergalactic Space Log:

    Year 20 16

Synopsis: Light years of travel would have been required to have reached this blue planet registered under the dominion of Pleiades Constellation, logged as Earth. Our technology afforded us great time savings, we crossed via several galactic wormholes. The radio buzz within the arms of our own spiral galaxy was that Earth would provide an ideal case study of a primitive planet interface and possible exploitation, exploitation not in terms of imposing servitude upon Earth's denizens, but rather that of direct interference upon a human race in what appears to be a desperate need of intervention.

Entry X.)784. ....7(- Summary

Using our cloaking mechanism we crossed the planet at its equator. Various race species inhabit these parallels. Due the mild weather, most run unclothed, but for rudimentary decorative handcrafted ornaments.

As we journey on northern longitudes, our ground penetrating sonar allows us notice of subterranean silos filled with nuclear armaments, particularly in their north american and Asian continents. Interestingly, few parts of the terrain exhibit weapons-free regions.

Their oceans are teeming with underwater vessels containing nuclear weapons of war, capable of annihilating their entire world. We curiously juxtaposition these with their starving masses found on many parts of their globe, particularly on what are called African and Indian continents.

Vast resources are required to sustain their systems of destruction. We are forced to wonder the purpose of these systems. Thousands of human personnel aided by computer grids are employed to this end. Ironic, given no real threat is detected. There exists no outside enemy invader, such as an intergalactic one. The violence of this species is prevalent in their cities, although violence exists in smaller communities. The violence is directed at each other, their own kind.

Borders exist between nations, guard stations bristle with large retaining walls replete with razor wire and armies. Their armaments are pointed at real or imagined enemies. We find no evidence of an enemy that justifies these conditions. One is left with the idea that their enemy is invisible.

We deployed thousands of probes within their homes, invisible to their eyes. Our surveillance instruments escape their detection. Within their homes and public places, we recorded subversive distrust among the great majority of earth's civilized population, regardless of location, culture or religious ideas.

Many forms of entertainment prevail. Many forms of it involve the pleasures of beauty and high levels of achievement and advancement of the arts. The species is capable of love toward their own species and animals. Some fight for peace and improvement of the planet.

We are currently examining the results of our findings. Although this planet is replete with vast natural resources, large populations live in dire poverty and conditions of famine. Although water is plenteous, in mountain snow, streams and rainfall, shortages of it exist in all quarters of each hemisphere. Perhaps their invisible enemy is responsible for this outcome.

Animals are slaughtered for sport. The rhino, the elephant; animal species endowed with attractive fur, or their appendages, are killed for the same. The white seal in particular, is prized and meets its end with a bludgeoning club. It stains the Arctic snows with its crimson blood that cries loudly in our ears.

Gold is esteemed for its yellow luster and malleable beauty. It seems accountable for the motive for criminal activity not precluding the murder of their own kind. Perhaps gold is their invisible enemy.  Would they esteem it as highly in our own sector of the universe if they realized its abundance; it being equal in quantity as the granitic rocks of their planet?

Conclusion 667^^.. .. . . -

We have yet to discover their threat, real or imagined. Our work will require research. Our biophysical/ psychological departments will work to that end, namely to isolate the cause of earth people's disdain for peace/ propensity for violence. One goal is to find the reason for their fears. At present we have speculative theories in their favor, that is, our government will, based on these findings, conclude whether to exterminate this race, or if there be redeemable qualities, intercede on their posterity's behalf and therefore, attempt to save them for future offspring and regeneration.

One major theory in this regard has been postulated by team Thiroxze of Andromeda Sector 43.5...7. The supposition suggested thus far is that of a malignant virus which may have infected earth's human population sometime in their distant past. This virus may have been isolated. Its DNA structure is peculiar in that it, much unlike our own untwisted version, resembles a helical staircase. Within its nucleotides have been found archetypes of a gene endowing mankind with a propensity towards rebellion. This rebellion seems to gain catalytic strength when in the presence of anti matter's influence.

Put simply, when humans are subjected to the truth impacting their propensity to do as what seems only in their own self interests; the gene causes a chain reaction of sorts and affects a series of biochemical events toward destruction with no regard for consequences.

Boo! I'm just working on a similar story but I'm glad a bit different. You have described very well with wry humour our inherent irrationality. Perhaps extermination is the best solution before we do it ourselves.
Well done!
