Tall ship of their time

Tall ship of their time

A Poem by RuseInex

sailing ship of 17th century times will never die

tall ships in their time
english stout wooden frames
main foremast aft and mizzen strong
you blazed watery trails
invisible currents, water ploughed
floating wonders self contained
buoys of fame and adventure’s lore
tall ships in their time
forerunner vessels of exploits to come
your wood grained bodies dense and fine
2 inch thick, 10 wide oaken planks
hollow wombs floating for sailors mankind
reaching heaven’s great glorious height
with your english stout wood masts 3
tall ship in your wooden time
english stout wooden main foremast strong
you blazed watery trails invisible currents waters ploughed
floating wonder self contained
buoy of fame and adventure’s lore
tall ship in your time
forerunner vessel of exploits to come
your wood grained body dense and fine
into the blue, into the void of blackness of night
sailing by star or sun’s light of day,
your sensuous hulk phantom in fog
feminine form in clear of day
matriarch maid formidable sailing swift sails full
slicing the sea with your majestic presence
tall ship in your time
balanced so fine
your masts studded 3
top deck’s salute so graceful inclined
92 foot main mast of weathered conifer
ancient tree once alive, stout in the forest at one time
stout now at port’s dock, silent watcher
of inland cove yarns spun
sounds of gulls and crew’s calls
mixed with laughter and curse
secret mystery plots and talk of exploits sublime
yarns and dreams of exotic ports far distant
sailor squawk tales alive in plymouth’s buzz
hungry colonies eager for sail’s set
tall ship in your time
your masts hoisted jibs ratlines secure
to the foremast’s crown pinnacle and mast sisters two
you weathered the calm of the seas in doldrums blue
and rages of she, an angry at times, fickle turbulent sea
patiently groomed sailors’ rough grasp
their curses and songs provoking,
inciting the winds on her horizon’s edge
gathered the clouds’ deepening gloom
their rants you endured patient and kind
tall ship in your time
you, british queen, regal and tolerant
of your children in your bowels and deck
their curses their song, your endurance
you kept them though
they cried each time they saw
the forming of black masses’ omen
so slowly approaching, time and again
then suddenly swirling again and again
monster cloud gins fomenting violence
with wild raging winds, weakening sailor’s knees
hurling their salty white spit mixed with the sea
of her majesties ocean foam, blowing upsurging gales
tall ship in your time
of strong bulwark and hull
protected your children in every quest
from black hurricane terror’s eerie void
unleased upon your tops and sides horrible waves
assaulted by horrendous heavy waves rogue
tall ship of your time
you faithfully led, forcefully hurled
allowed your great form into storm’s maw
fearless tall ship, tall ship of your time
you were billowed by crest and trough
that charged and grabbed hold of your decks lowest planes
where shivering beasts frightened and cowered
all those on board, their trust on you placed
hoped with the sounds of your voice creaking and grumbling
for you dear tall ship of your time to pass their God’s test
tall ship in your time your mainmast so rigidly stands
fully adorned fore, main and mizzens spars cast with canvas
fully and gorgeously, gallantly unfurled
tall ship of your time, banners streaming in the sky
you’re a roiling sea beauty to behold stern to bow
crossbeams and ropes anchors away
tall ship of your time to journeys untold
’cross oceans above to mysterious depths below
so profound and far, south latitudes of atlantic’s brow
around the horn and beyond to warm latitudes lore
she feared nought in her 80 year’s service
traversed navigations in all manner of weather
including neptune’s curse
tall ship of your time, you challenged for more
sought bounty from distant shore’s landfalls
gliding across fathomless leagues
through treacherous crosswinds
setting the minds of indigenous peoples to fire
buoyed your precious cargo of human soul and treasure
rum and gold, pearls and wine,
spices and salt, goats and swine
high above a watery death, safe from davy jones locker
whose deep sea trench failed to perturb detain or obscure
the vision of your sailors fierce, who fought so hard to maintain
your honor in your pursuit to cross the atlantic
and touch parts of pacific so far from home
far, far beyond the straits around the horn and beyond
you tall ship of old courageously faced pirates
their threat of plunder at turn of each wake
tall ship of your time,
t’would be a pleasure were you to permit
me to dine in your quarters within
your captain’s divine abode
to touch your wheel house spokes which so many times spun
with your fury unleashed, obeyed his awesome command
tall ship in your time
navigational minds, the winds, yours and his
became so entwined, a mutual love ’tween you and him
came in success of the most notorious kind
you sailed together in grip of plague’s death
escaped, might have become a ghost ship banished to roam
yet the high seas you survived the varied and sordid likes
of scurvy and famine on board, two castaway lots
that i might dine at this moment
with you two captain and crew
tall ship in your time
would you yield a marvelous supper for me at high seas?
with you gently rocking our meal ’tis so sweet,
i would venture our discussion so mild
the scent of your oaken woman’s skin
your warm wood interior hold
the secret inner folds, i’d welcome absorb
lie upon your planks of old
’an dream of you as a fair maiden of flesh and bone
sailing hand in hand, my head on your breasts
love’s lullabies of your voice creaking tune
of comfort and pleasure
rolling and rocking ever so slow
tall ship in your time
trimmed in your finest of soft glowing brass
contrast of black paint ship’s mascara in galleys below
oh, tall ship of your time so like a goddess
under full moon we dine
tall sailing ship of splendid design
creation of man, sweet mother of man
kept mankind alive since noah’s time you’ve evolved
to sports sails, classic immortal design
each one of your sailors, cute cabin boy too,
(lest he perplexed with protest cry)
tall ship in your time
’tis no wonder
you will forever abide
you will return, i hereby prophesy
your kind will never die

A rum chanty with a loaded cargo, to rule the waves that restless rise!

Takes no prisoners in its wake - reads at a cracking pace.
