Eucalyptus Canopy

Eucalyptus Canopy

A Poem by RuseInex

Into the deepening night
The silver of moon with
Jupiter’s cold lone star
Bright

The night comes on
The back of the cold wind
And flings itself
On our tight knit canopy
Of trees

Into the deepening night
Around the fiery pit
Into the coals and flickering flames
Of yellow
We stare and think and talk
And listen
The wind flings itself
On our tight knit canopy
Of trees

Into the deepening night
We lay nestled in camphor scented bags
Made sweet through trees’ oil
And sad too by the hooting
Of the early owl
And shadowy light

Mourning, howling, rustling wind
Waxing and waning as if were
The moon
Heaving and blowing strong
Creaking, swirling and swaying
The eucalyptus trees,
That tight knit canopy
Of sleep and dreams
