The Land of the Coast

The Land of the Coast

A Poem by Meh
"

A poem I wrote in 7th grade for some contest I didn't place in... but hopefully, it earns a spot in the Cafe.

"

One gray early morning, I stood on Seacliff Mount.

My hands spread out, I walked to the edge,
I looked down, down to the vast sea.
I took a deep breath and dived down off the ledge.

Water was all around me, both black and green.
I saw a tiny jellyfish float gently beside me.
I saw a shark, a whale, and so much more.
And I thought to myself: If only people could see what I see.

My air was almost gone and I pulled myself up.
I took another breath, wanting to go back in glee,
But I stayed up for one minute more.
I thought once again: If only people could see what I see.

I pushed myself down, down to the depths of the ocean,
But this time to a deeper place under the sea.
And I saw creatures I could not name
I looked at them curiously while they stared back looking gloriously.

I swam back up the world beyond the sea,
Up and above to the land I had always known.
Faster and faster, up and up,
To the land of California, the land of the coast.

Author's Note

Meh
You opinion is valuable, perhaps even more than my left eye (okay, that was random. What I mean is that I would like feedback, both positive and negative. And no, I'm not serious about giving my left eye to know what you think. Be nice. Give me your opinion for free).
