We Are Honored (Version 2)

We Are Honored (Version 2)

A Poem by Meh
"

For Ms. Stancil's 5th period English Honours Class, both Semester 1 & Semester 2. Second Version of the original poem. Only difference is that the word "honored" is spelled "honored," not "honoured." Always remember... we are honoured.

"

we are honored

beyond all belief
we are honored
through the grief

she’s passing notes
he’s whispering
the teachers grading papers
we’re all singing

we’re all singing
our very own songs
each different and unique
of dreams so prolonged

we’ve got a word
we’ve got a say
we’ve got an opinion
that is shown everyday

we enter class
and sit upon desks of old wood
that have timeless stories to tell
desks that for long years have stood

upon a dirty floor,
as old as the desk itself
reading books that lie aimlessly
upon a high bookshelf

a girl writes poems
while contemplating discussions
of historical occasions made by leaders
who ended up with bad concussions

while a woman walks like a man,
bold and daring
with her hair long and happy,
who dares to sail to worlds by faring

those who cross those wide wretched valleys
those who climb those high held hills
those born to bring peace,
those born to work the mills

we are those
who sat upon chairs
high up into the sky,
climbing white ivory stairs

we are honored
beyond all belief
we are honored
through the grief

we are honored
and called from the sky
reaching for the stars,
aiming way up high

and into the sky,
into the sky
way up there,
way up high

until dusk turns to dawn,
‘till we’re out of here
far from cruel reality
far from the fear

we are honored
‘till we die
we are honored—
so reach for the sky
