Silent current

Silent current

A Poem by Rudi J.P. Lejaeghere
"

Time is a sort of river of passing events, and strong is its current;no sooner is a thing brought to sight than it is swept by and another takes its place, and this too will be swept away M.Aurelius

"

Just like the water polishes a cobble after cobble

and the sharpness with the stream is falling away,

all these little things get smaller all the time of the day

travelling with the silent current as they wobble

in my mind and the image I keep is fading in a haze

just like a very old ink written on an ancient parchment

it disentangles as a beloved but threadbare garment

it resembles to the feeling and the look upon my face

will I then forget how you look and who you are

or will I miss you every morning less and less

on a certain moment finding your presence even bizarre

will I have so many doubts that I simply only can guess

the name I gave you when I caress, it flies and is too far,

for me I hope to be wrong, this way is not at all a bless.

Your memories here are flowing so nicely
So smoothly in a painless fashion

I do not see sadness
I see deep love for what once was
And i feel you have so much power over things that they do not write you
You write them
Love your work by the way

You're welcome!
It is sad how memories seem to fade over the years...
Your poem brought me back to my father's last few months, when he didn't recognize his family and friends...the sadness I felt for him - and still do is overpowering.
Your words have touched my heart Rudi. Wonderful writing my friend

Ageing is a 'silent current' and while it does smooth the rough edges of life's events, it can also take from us the memories we cherish. I loved the movement in this piece, Rudi... well done!
