Outside the frame

Outside the frame

A Poem by Rudi J.P. Lejaeghere
"

I watched a bowl of fruit on the table remain motionless. Just another example of life imitating art. ― Jarod Kintz

"

Silent the apple lays

half peeled

in the painting

but it’s especially the knife

brilliant sharp on the board

that draws my attention

just one hand away from

his fixed prey

that’s why I also suspect

on the outside of the frame

the man or the woman

ready to complete the task

at least a child

to bite a piece out of the fruit

maybe I will be back tomorrow

I wouldn’t be surprised

if I could look the worm

out of the rest of this apple.

Very unique concept of poetic expression . I saw a picture of a Boa constrictor inside a cage sleeping with bunch of scared and anxious chickens inside the same cage . Perhaps the knife depicts the great equalizer which doesn't discriminates . One way or the other it will be our turn on the chopping board And life is just like a stage . I wonder what the worm represents?

A perspective, a reflection, a direct view and then an insight into the dark fertile place behind the eye.

That's indeed what the poem is trying to tell. Thank you Delmar for your review. :) Rudi
Nice work, Rudi. I really liked the last two lines. It's kind of a dark poem, man!

Works without seeing the painting, too.

Quite a unique outlook, Rudi, as you now have me wondering; who really lays beyond the photo? Is it ever changing from one person to another, a child will peer upon the scene with gleeful anticipation, while an adult may look at it as a symbol of themselves. Here two pairs, whole, intacted, I the apple cut, disfigured, broken into shards of what I use to be—why must I be the outcast, the “prey,” I need to whole and unified.

What an intriguing painting and reflection, a great example for us of ekphrasis, and a great example of quests completed, I wouldn't mind having a painting like this on the wall either!
