Peacock

Peacock

A Poem by Rudi J.P. Lejaeghere
"

At twenty a man is a peacock, at thirty a lion, at forty a camel, at fifty a serpent, at sixty a dog, at seventy an ape, at eighty a nothing at all. Baltasar Gracian

"

Self-assured and o so vain

beak away from me

he gives me the eye

with a neck so stiff as a stick

the feathers dragging

on his footsteps

as a wedding dress

he stride away and closer

to measure him a crown

with pontifical cries

as a wide range

woven with colours.

This piece is penned in June . Indeed Rudi Peacock is one of the most gorgeous bird endowed by God . With all its flashy colours rivals that or Birds of Paradise in Amazon forrest . Seems like they have everything to be agarranteed winner in life . That pampous pose and we you said .Self assured stance . I have seen an Albino on the internet and its so immaculate . White as frosted snow . What causes many heads to turn for such colourful beauty and grandeur never made it to the hall of fame when it comes to character . With such beauty and status comes pride of life and self reliance as well as self sufficience and security ... I'm glad you ponder this deeply no noticed the vanity if not place in right perspective .

You begin as I'm drawn in: Self-assurred and Oh so vain, (the arrogance, I love it)-a neck stiff as a stick. Rudy, I can see this and the evolution coming forth. And Rene is so practised, a great poet, not as I, so I'm trying. I see a transformation coming - the feathers dragging on his footsteps. From the beginning to the end, changes are occurring, and I do the metaphor of our life - the decline will come - he stride away and closer to measure him a crown, with pontifical cries. Well you hit me between the eyes, what a great writer you are Rudi! As a wide range woven with colours. The ending to me ends with the experiences of life. I love this poem. Thank you. My library it will go.

peacocks are so expressive and do give off a sense of arrogance....like a woman who knows she is beautiful and smart...and struts her stuff...

or like a male who is such a show off...territorial and having to be the center of attention.

cool poem, nice analogy used.

Thank you Delmar, for taking time to read my poem. :) Rudi
This to me an excellent opportunity for those reviewing in fact this is a carte blanche or a reviewers paradise. Be warned reviewers if any of you was to say nicely penned or greeat imagery would only get to show your own limitations. I will go on a tangent hoping to be convincingly wrong about it. There are times in life when you are granted for one or another reason a view into your own reflection you begin to quantify and qualify. Who you see is confronted by : Who is that? Is it that really me?. I reckon this is one of Rudi's faces as a human being, one that of course I also have nicely encapsulated in the word petulance. Here is to the petualant in me. Jesus just in case if my tangent proves right I'm doomed.

Great depiction here.

Thankyou
