Night

Night

A Poem by Rudi J.P. Lejaeghere
"

The wing of the Falcon brings to the king, the wing if the crow brings him to the cemetery. Muhammad Iqbal

"

A crow is flying by

and caws the little edges off the day

in evening away.

Night is crawling black from tree to tree,

his limit is the shadow

his nest is down the grave.

A crow is flying by

and caws the rest of sleep

into so wide awake.

The dark is mirroring fear

in open and behind the sleepy eyes

until in the morning

with the first crowing

the ghosts are gone again.

I love writing about the night. I almost feel more comfortable in the evening that any other time during the day. I got a feeling of Poe while reading this. He wrote about a raven and you wrote about a crow, but it still reminded me of his work lol. You are amazing with imagery though, I can always perfectly see what you're describing and I love that about your work. Thank you again for sharing your poems with me :)

This is really scary. Crows are really smart birds. But I don't like them...A feeling of death and fear enveloped me as I read this!!!

It is a very interesting piece of work, I must say..!
Moreover I felt really happy to see you quoting Iqbal..Our famous poet, philosopher and leader whom we still respect from the core of our hearts...

This is really interesting and clever!
Crows are mostly associated with death and darkness. But they are really intelligent creatures.
I have noticed that all your work has a different concept and topic than others and I love it.
Thank you for such a great RR :)

I live in the country and my wife and I serve two cats. Every morning we feed them on the front porch and every morning a murder of five crows visits to share breakfast. Crows are very smart birds, by smart I mean intelligent not clever, a horse can be clever- learn tricks, that sort of thing. One crow watches while four eat and if he (or she) calls the four flee. The crows know my face, don't think we all look alike to crows, we don't. I may see only a crow, but a crow knows who and what I am. They know us and either hate and fear us or they tolerate us. They are like cats in that respect. But crows come to my house at breakfast and supper, morning and evening. I do not know where they go at night, but in the morning they know who I am and all I know is there are five of them.

Beautiful imagery.

The night, like bad times, is frightening. But just like it turns into daylight, sorrows turn into happy moments and then we forget the bad times. Fear and hope, well played comparing the night and the day.

My pleasure, John.
' Night is crawling black from tree to tree. ' - what a wonderful opening line.

The 'feel' of the poem is near mythical - the crow, dark and daring, is disturbed by the ghosts so. it caws and chatters them off and away through the night. That done, the ghosts disappear and all's calm again... at least for a while.

One would think that crows only come out at night, but according to your verse here surprisingly they caw into the first light of day. They are not afraid of ghosts, seeing them; nor are these crows unfriendly to anyone who takes a deep interest in them.
