I was a tree

I was a tree

A Poem by Rudi J.P. Lejaeghere
"

We are born believing. A man bears beliefs as a tree bears apples. Ralph Waldo Emerson

"

Once I was a tree

and just stopped growing,

yesterday or so I forgot

how I had to do it,

today I feel it

at the chilly cold in my roots.

Once I was a tree,

it wasn’t just for now that I realised,

this morning my trunk

cracked for the first time,

or at least a bit more then

the day before.

Once I was a tree,

and reached with my old branches

at the sun and the moon,

now they reach a little less further

but they are begging

so much harder.

Very original and unique kind of poem, the words are beautifully gathered to make a witty, yet touching poem.
