Can I sing a blackbird

or a lark in the air,

do I want to butterfly a flower

in a sigh of wind,

some sun ray to impregnate,

 

to spread my wings

and smell of violets,

to pollinate so quiet the grass

with powder snow so white

and totally clear,

 

may I hear it in the sounds,

in the clinging of the crystal,

so that it gently pushes further

as the song that is searching

for the middle of my heart.

I love how the words that you expect to find are replaced with ones that the reader does not expect - its like tasting something that you know but a taste that a chef ( a very inventive one) has added a twist to - who would have thought chill-chocolate would be so popular but for an idea hatched by a chef who wanted to push the envelope.

The mesh of nature and the overall theme of life in this poem does well to appeal to each sense. The enveloping effect could perhaps be improved by associating these decorative images with color; however, this would just be a frill added to an already nice poem.

Though it is apparent that English is not your native language as there are a few grammatical errors, the read is impressively smooth. I greatly admire what you've done here, and I wonder, why do you write poems not just in your native language? I can't imagine creating coherent thought in a language that I do not naturally have mastery over.

Thank you for your extensive review. I have written poetry (in Dutch) for about 40 years, with success. I stumbled upon a few English poetry websites and I have read a lot of English poetry. At a certain moment I thought I could try it once and so here I am. I hope the grammatical errors ar not too bad. I must confess, that I first make my poems in Dutch and translate them afterwards in English, but it's always a 'free' translation. I mostly read it out loud to see if it sounds. I'm also a music fan and I like it when a poem reads as fluently as a song.
