7. The Horseman of the Night

7. The Horseman of the Night

A Chapter by Rudi J.P. Lejaeghere
"

I have, indeed, no abhorrence of danger, except in its absolute effect - in terror. Edgar Allan Poe

"

He’s back,

the horseman of the night,

I hear the beating of my heart

on the rhythm of his hasty gallop.

Will he stop tonight

in my town or will he wait

until I fall asleep, so weary

and forget his name.

Do I hear in the wind

his silent laughter,

while he whispers softly:

oh, child of men,

there is no escape.

Don’t bother,

I’ll find you,

even in your dreams.

Great voice, this was a whole lot better listened to than read from my view. But then I read it again and liked it more the second time through. Funny how things change your view.

Not quite the same metaphorical aspect I've gotten from other pieces within this series of poems, however after continued readings I found the atmospheric horror of this piece a whole hell of a lot of fun!! Ah there it is, the metaphor I was looking for. Fear personified as the horseman. Perhaps in some essence, the darkness of man embodied as the horseman. There's a sweet old school poetic tone to this that I really enjoyed, you just don't see it often anymore.

Myth and tale are my favorite. I liked the above lines. Strong and true. Thank you Rudi for sharing the outstanding poetry and tale.
