Being born in a duck yard does not matter, if only you are hatched from a swan's egg.
Hans Christian Andersen
Bad news it was when the world broke out in rain, out of my eyes a piece of sorrow flowed, a sudden decease came effortless and pitiless it stroke
into a last and sober writing, closed and intertwined with a cross on wood, returning to the earth, cold and for good with your hands entangled like you dozed
off and never will sing your song again, in verses you disappear, the Swan on the lake so silently swimming away and trying in vain
to hold you in my eyes, in my mind, to take your words of a Swan Song, my heart’s full of pain forever and ever, your rhymes will now come awake.
Rudi: Another amazing write. There are layers within this; I know people write that, but I can see so many images in this poem; that photo is gorgeous, with many thoughts about them. The thought, the visual of a swan alone, is sad, knowing they mate for life, and the line about the cross, I see a wooden cross beside me Hane made in bible school, the coldness to be left alone, the deep meloncholy feeling of knowing always to be alone, without your love one, the way you describe is superb. I will remember this for awhile. Well done Rudi...very well done indeed. A flood came, in drops of pain. Dale

My mentor, Iris van de Casteele, the one who had stimulated me and had helped me to publish my first work (a collection of poems) has died in February. I've dedicated this poem to her. She was in fact, a bit a lonely swan, never understood by the 'Poet Society' in Belgium and the Netherlands. She has even emigrated to Paraguay with her soulmate, an Uruguayan musician Cacho Aguire. They have returned a few times to visit some friends here in Belgium and at that occasion have been a guest in my house. She has also given a party when she became 80 here in Belgium, it was the last time we have seen her. She has written beautiful poems and she wrote also in French, Spanish and English. I'll never forget her. :) Rudi

The rhyme is mostly abba for the stanzas with 4 sentences. You can find much more details about the sonnet by clicking on the following link:

If you want I always can edit a sonnet you've written, that's no problem at all. Give me a message with the text and I'll look at it, Anne. So, I should say: start writing... :) Rudi

thank you for the information Sir, I will try next time..:))
I love this...so majestic and wonderful as I like to picture the swan to be. I also think this is a little too mature and elegant for me. I had a hard time understanding some of your wording and what you wanted me to imagine and gleam from the lines. Overall I do love the piece though. Thank you for sharing it with me :)

A beautiful way to say goodbye
Elegant, kind and sweet
Your soul is all over this piece
And it is a beautiful one

A beautifully sad write, Rudi, but so full of love and admiration. No sweeter gesture than to offer your own 'Swan Song' in honour of her life and passing. Well-done!

I'm from Belgium. English is not my native language, but I like to read English poems and books. I have written a lot of Dutch poems during the last forty years. With some of them I've got prizes in B.. more..
