"And So I Am"A Poem by Ruby ShineA self-discovery type of lyrical poem ..."And So I Am" (2012) *** Struggling to be who I am Is who I am now Even who I'll become here after? *** For years I hid tears Behind laughing walls That feared others' laughter *** And as I sit here alone My demons I am fighting While questioning the direction life's heading *** Oh, I just can't do what they want me to do And do they even do what they tell me to do? Oh, how can I adapt to changes and still remain true? For what once seemed so close now seems so far What's so far away makes everything so hard Frustration sets in when I'm so lonesome and blue Sometimes I just want to leave behind these blues And head up to the stars shining bright over all of you *** And though I'm far gone just before dawn, I'm still up and alive All alone, but happier than I've been in a long while And so I am And so I am *** A legend growing within my mind's eye But an outcast here In the eyes of the masses *** For years I hid fears Out of fear I'd actually enjoying rhyming others to laughter *** And even if they want me to be who they are Who are they now? Do they even know who they are? *** Oh, I just can't look how they want me to look And do they even look how they tell me to look? Oh, how can I adapt to this ever-changing book of life? 'Cause if you can look beyond all my troubles and scars Beneath all the rubble still bubbles this heart If you can listen beyond all my mumbling parts You'll hear me turning a troubled life Into beautiful art *** And I don't need anyone to tell me where I'm going and when For I'm discovering now what I thought I knew then And so I am And so I am © 2012 Ruby Shine |
