My Daddy's Poem

My Daddy's Poem

A Poem by RubyOmma
"

Written for my Dad for his birthday 6 years ago

"
I remember catching crawdads
at the river; they swim backwards
you know.
I know because my daddy showed me.
Strong and gentle, he is an
inspiration to all who know him.
Working in the garden, or
sunbathing in the chaise lounge;
cut off jeans and sandals,
at dinner a Hawaiian shirt.
His favorite color is Blue.
He showed me spiders and roses
hook shots and dribbling,
a love for life and
a life worth living.
He never gives up
so neither will I,
for him I would bake
the world's best apple pie.
Sixlets and Milkshakes
surprise treats from the past,
even though long digested
the sweet memories will last.
My daddy is kind
and he laughs with a hoot.
He's smart and determined
charismatic to boot.
Strong but not macho
there's never a fear,
'cause everything's fine
when my daddy is near.
I love you forever Dad
you gave me the world;
even though I get older
I'll always be your little girl.
I'll never be the same without you Dad.

Very nicely done and thought out. This one made me Cry. My father is a farm boy, and taught my sisters and I everything about farming and how to be a "boy". I was in 4th grade when I broke my arm getting thrown off a horse, and my father carried me into the house. His has always been a big man, and yet so caring and forgiving. On September 18th 2013 he was diagnosed with throat cancer. To see my father go from 300 lbs. of muscle to 165 lbs. in only a year tore me up more than I ever thought possible. We almost lost three times before they got it under control. Now a little over a year later he is cancer free, and back to doing the things he once taught us girls. I have no idea if your dad is still with you or not, but I can read the love you have for him in this poem. Is he is still is with you, cherish it. Every moment. If not. I am truly from the bottom of my heart sorry. I am 33 years old and do not even want to imagine what life would be like without my "Daddy".

That is a very sweet tribute to a dear father. I feel the same way about my father as well. He taught me great things, he has been a good male role model, and I also feel like even with my aging, I will always be his little girl.

I love this stanza the most:
"He showed me spiders and roses
hook shots and dribbling,
a love for life and
a life worth living."
