Distance

Distance

A Poem by Nihad Dweidary

The perfect night with you

bleeds in my soul

as does the oozing sap

aching in the dark woodland.

I dare not chart

the cultivated distance

that stretches between you

and my reason,

where the heart mitigates no pain

and time offers no solace.

I dare not quench this reiterative

feeling of torment

which lives in my appetizing thoughts

of you.

Crafted in my mind

are moments unlived,

undiscovered,

but rather veiled in the secrecy of hope,

Warmed by an evening fire

And nurtured by words.

This poem is of the earth: tangible, inescapable, poignant, and filled with the unmistakable desire for a love unfulfilled. I love the imagery created within the first four lines and carried throughout until the unveiling of your secrecy of hope. Yes! This poem is of the earth but is carried out to sea upon relentless waves of longing. Your heart is ever in your pen.

Hello Nihad, how are you.. I missed your poetry. I absolutely loved this. It told a story with so much passion and depth. Just very beautiful to read. This is a poem for every woman - veiled in the secrecy of hope - nicely said. What can be more soul shaking than longing for a lover?

Gandre told me about your poetry......I can see why. You have a natural talent to dip into the emotion called LOVE.
