Sad UnwrittensA Poem by Nihad DweidaryNever forget a heart that sorrows....
This poem is sad;
You can choose not to read it. It is not as sad As a lonely river That lost its path And entered no sea, Nor as tragic as the death Of a thousand smiles On the faces of African children, Starved and left to die. But, it is sad, nonetheless. This poem is as sad As failing a final exam, Knowing you could’ve passed If you had an instructor, Were given a syllabus Or assigned a book To dog-ear its pages And pretend it were your own. As sad as two people Losing each other East and west of a far-off island That overlooks a wild sunset. As sad as promises unfulfilled, words unwritten, hopes unspoken, And touches unexchanged. As sad as your loss Of yesterday, Your passiveness Of today, And your fear Of tomorrow. There is a degree in sadness That is close to sacredness About which I won't write, So you don't have to read.
